I’ve enjoyed your videos and appreciate the hard work you’ve put into your spreadsheets. My first experience with investing goes back to the mid-80’s, with the mutual funds of that era. I craved every insight I could get from Sir John Templeton, and owned the Growth Fund from 85 until a couple of weeks ago. Without the founder, the fund lost its way and increased the mer from about .75% to somewhere around 2.5% today. Also, the managers who replaced Sir John haven’t lived up to his record. I’ve been looking for the next great value investor focused on Templeton’s principals, ie. buying a diversified portfolio of global stocks, choosing the best companies in the most undervalued markets throughout the world. You seem to be headed in that direction. I think you would enjoy reading about his life, investments and philosophy. John Train has written two books on great value investors, “The Money Masters”, and “The New Money Masters”. I think you would enjoy the brief biographies included.
I owned EIT.UN for a number of years, with a dividend reinvestment plan, and because of the roc element in each month’s dividend, found calculating the book value quite a challenge when I sold. You might mention this to your followers – it would be no issue if held in a registered account. I wouldn’t reinvest these dividends in an open account today – live and learn!
I don’t want to sound like a Cassandra, but do worry that a rising tide lifts all boats, and placing my faith in money managers who didn’t shield me from the crashes in 87, 2000 and 2008, especially 2008, makes me skeptical of escaping the next crash with “wise” money management.
